The SCSU Cheer Squad has two main tryout requirements
Tumbling Requirements:
Standing backhandspring, roundoff backhandspring (without a spot)
Nationals Competition Tumbling Requirements:
Standing back tuck and a standing back handspring back tuck (without a spot)
In addition to excelling in these particular tumbling requirements you must also demonstrate:
-Toe touch jump
-Strong stunting ability
-Tight motions/placement with excellent facials
-Strong dance
-Positive “team” player attitude willing to learn and try new skills and accept constructive criticism
-Optimum flexibility/physical fitness/athletic level
Any additional tumbling that you have can be demonstrated at the tryout. Ex: round off back handspring layout/full twist
Flyers must be able to stunt using both legs.
The SCSU Cheer Squad cheers all home football and women’s & men’s basketball games.
The squad competes locally, regionally and nationally. Practices are generally Monday-Friday, 6:30-9pm. However, while training for competition these times change and weekend practices are possible.
Summer practices will be held and are mandatory; College Cheer Camp in the summer is also mandatory.
"All practice days/times are subject to change"
I am looking for Student-Athletes who are ready to be a part of a cheer program unlike no other. It takes talent, dedication, and being overwhelmingly positive to do well on this squad. Being a college cheerleader is mainly about academics, your education being your NUMBER ONE priority. This role requires lots of time, energy, dedication, hard work, and a little bit of fun as well!
Our main focus is to cheer for our football and basketball teams; but it is very exciting to prepare for competitions as well.

All prospective SCSU Cheerleaders who wish to tryout MUST submit a tryout form (Through This Website) Below. Your tryout will be confirmed from Coach Lenda via email. Please be sure your email address is submitted correctly.
**Currently enrolled SCSU students wishing to tryout, MUST be fulltime, matriculated and in good
academic standing (2.0 overall gpa or higher)**
There is no one allowed in the tryout area throughout the duration of the day.
You will be told of your status by e~mail, within one week of tryout date.
